Alaska’s Calling

If you have a restless feeling
And you’re almost bored to tears
As at night you sit and ponder
Thinking of the by-gone years.

You may plan a little fishing trip
Or even go outside
But for a worthwhile diversion
I suggest an airplane ride.

Here you have ALASKA
Spread before your very door
Beckoning, fairly calling you
To the charms she has in store.

And when you see Alaska
You see nature at her best
Just give me Alaska
You can gladly have the rest.

Your rivers, lakes and glaciers
Are no doubt beyond compare
As a source of scenic wonder
When viewed from the air.

So you’d better plan a little ride
Perhaps and hour or two
It really is surprising
What one little ride will do!

(by Gordon Graham. He wrote this poem in 1929 when he flew as a mechanic on the first commercial flight across the Gulf of Alaska, from Juneau to Cordova.)
